The Human Population Reaches 7 Billion
The earth just reached a population of 7 billion people.
The UN estimates that approximately 1 Billion people will be without a continuous source of clean water.
It is also estimated that approximately a billion people will go at least 2-3 days a week without food.
1.7 billion people live in absolute poverty
50,000 people die of poverty related conditions (lack of food, water, housing, healthcare) every single day of the year.
Threats to our food supply will continue to increase due to drought, water and soil degradation, approximately 40% of the world’s agricultural land is seriously degraded.
Other natural woodlands (like the rain forest) are being torn down to build housing. Plants are the main source of oxygen on our planet.
Over population and the poverty that comes with it causes an increased risk of dropping out of school, teen pregnancy and aids.
Over population and the poverty that results from it increases violent crime and causes crimes such as theft, robbery, and prostitution as those with little education, few marketable skills and impoverished conditions to turn to crime to find money to pay for food.
In over populated cities, it is not uncommon to see the homeless dying and dead on the streets while thousands pass by trying to ignore them.
It is estimated that the world population will be between 8 and 10 billion by 2050.
Happy 7 Billion everybody!
It’s time to rethink this issue. It’s time to work together to solve these problems.
It’s time to recycle, reuse, donate food to a food pantry, clothes to a homeless shelter, teach someone to read, advocate for the downtrodden or just do something to help an impoverished person in need.
